Under the Bright Lights

Pro wrestling tag team match involving four wrestlers

No shame—I’ve been a pro wrestling fan since I was a kid (much to my family’s chagrin.) Again, it’s the good guys versus villains thing.

That fandom led me to write a pro wrestling-themed short story titled “Under the Bright Lights”.  I’m honored that it has been published in the premiere issue of The Bloomin’ Onion literary magazine. It’s a departure from my usual fun type of story—it’s a lot darker. But I hope you enjoy it.

Beto Gutierrez is a college student and aspiring pro wrestler. When he gets booked on a three-show loop, he thinks he’s on the way to Monday night stardom. But his travel partner for the weekend is “Devilish” Dean Driver, a fallen star whose demons cost him a career in the big time. Beto learns that addictions come in different forms, but they all can be destructive.
