Going to the Prom (Finally)!
Yeah, I was lame in high school and skipped my senior prom. But I’m getting a second chance to attend with my wife, Amy Joyner Buchanan. At least on the printed page.
Amy and I have co-authored a short story “The Box with the Pink Satin Bow” for Wild Ink Publishing’s Prom Perfect anthology. Amy is the author of five non-fiction books and the founder of Atta Girl Says . So she has plenty of writing chops. But this is the first time we’ve co-written fiction together, so I’m stoked to see this story in print!
Ronnie doesn’t think about going to the prom. The teenager helps her dad, a loving but irresponsible parent, make ends meet by cleaning out abandoned storage units. One day, she discovers a box in one of these lockers. Inside are one girl’s 1980s prom memories, and they spark a conversation between Ronnie and her dad.
