New Short Story in Wickedness & Wonder (Plus More on The Blacksmith’s Boy)
I’m counting down the days until the Aug. 12 launch of my debut novel, The Blacksmith’s Boy. But that’s not the only writing project I have to share!
Wickedness & Wonder, a collection of fairy tale retellings, is now available from Wild Ink Publishing. This fantastic collection includes my short story “Lil’ Red,” a gritty, modern retelling of “Little Red Riding Hood.”
Raylene “Lil’ Red” Houlde is a young woman struggling to get by in a small North Carolina town. When her beloved Grandma got sick, Lil’ Red gave up her dreams of being a musician. Now, she serves up burgers and brews at The Wagon Wheel. It’s not much, but the people are nice and she and Grandma need the paycheck.
But one day, trouble walks into the bar in the form of Lobo Hamrick, a high school classmate of Lil’ Red’s and the son of the town’s wealthiest family. Lobo is used to getting his way, and when Lil’ Red rejects his unwanted advances, she becomes the target of his twisted revenge scheme. Can she save herself and her Grandma from the Big Bad Wolf?
That’s just one of the nearly 40 short stories, poems, and flash fictions in Wickedness & Wonder. It also includes stories from Kristen Argyres, Erin Jo Eldry, Lindsay Schraad Keeling, Adele Liles, Rebecca Minelga, J.K. Raymond, Emily Rozmus, Demi MIchelle Schwartz, Arwyn Sherman, Avery Timmons and more! Big thanks to Shaelynn Long and Brittany McMunn for including me in this great anthology.
