My First Author Fair!

Author Bruce Buchanan and artist Tamara Horton sign books at the Rutherford County Library Local Author Fair

On October 11, I went back to Western N.C. for the first annual Rutherford County Library Local Author Fair—and it was a blast! Tamara Horton, whose amazing illustrations grace the inside of THE BLACKSMITH’S BOY, lives in Rutherford County and I’m so grateful we could do this event together.

We signed lots of books, talked to a bunch of readers, met other writers, and generally had a wonderful time. The library, located in Rutherfordton, N.C., is brand-new and sparkling, and the library staff were gracious hosts. A number of cousins came out to support us, which was so appreciated.

And best of all, my Mom got to join us. After the author fair, we went to a great local Mexican restaurant (Mi Pueblito – check it out if you are in Rutherfordton!)

Anyway, they’re planning the 2026 Local Author Fair and we definitely plan on going back!
