Wow! I’m a Finalist in the 2025 Witold Krull Postcard Contest!
I didn’t expect to be named a Finalist when my wife, Amy, told me about this contest. “Enter it,” she said. “It’ll be fun, and who knows? You might just win!” The assignment sounded fun: Write a microfiction (short enough to fit on a postcard, roughly 75-125 words). It must contain an apology plus a reference to Hotel Greene in Richmond.
I took her wise advice, wrote an entry, and promptly forgot about it, even though I was proud of what I came up with. I filed it away as just a fun writing experience and moved on to the next project, never really expecting more than a cursory rejection.
To my surprise, I received an email letting me know I’d made it to the finals. That means Amy & I get to go to the Hotel Green in October, where I’ll join the other finalists in reading my piece. Then, since this is a fun event and not a stodgy ceremony, we all enjoy cake, drinks and indoor mini-golf!
